Jay White - Our Vegas Diamond is Back Home in Las Vegas

Photos by Nikki Artale

It was exciting to see Jay White’s Christmas Show once again on December 6, 2014 at the Suncoast Hotel in Las Vegas. Jay was back in town to celebrate the holidays before leaving on his busy schedule for the next couple of months. After playing New Year’s Eve in Reno with King Errisson, Neil Diamond’s percussionist, Jay prepared for his 2015 tours. The Christmas show was magical and the audience made themselves a part of the show as they sang along with Jay when he pointed the microphone towards them.  As Jay gets older he looks more and more like Neil Diamond and his voice and mannerisms are so perfect, you could close your eyes and hear Neil Diamond. www.AmericasDiamondLive.com

Jay has been doing the Neil Diamond tribute show for over 30 years and many of his band players have performed with him for many of those years. He is proud to have his son Neil White (Bass guitar) playing in the band also. Neil has released a new album, showing his many talents and he soon will be starting his 2015 US Tour.

Jay White and his band will continue to play Casinos, Corporate and Performing Arts Theaters around the states in Wisconsin and the Skagit Casino in Washington State. Next month will find them in Newfoundland Canada and then on to Australia and Chile South America. Everyone will be thrilled and excited to see and hear Jay White because he is the next best thing to Neil Diamond. Neil Diamond once told Jay White “Keep singing so I can stay home and relax”. Neil sent Jay two of his jackets, one a black sequined and one a silver glitter sequined that he wears in the show. How exciting is that?

Jay recently played with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and is looking forward to some additional dates with them here in the US. The Grammy award winning Philharmonic Orchestra provides artistic excellence that enriches the quality of life through live music and Jay White fits right in there for his spectacular performances.

His second love is hockey and it all started when he was eight years old and his dream was to make it to the NHL one day but only got as far as two pre-season games with the IHL Kalamazoo Wings. Over the last 10 years, he not only played in several professional NHL Alumni games with some of hockey’s greatest players, but from 2004-09 (at age 50 plus) he was the Emergency backup Goalie for ECHL Las Vegas Wranglers (ages 18-32).  Last month in his home town of Detroit he was on the ice at Joe Louis Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings hockey team, playing goalie in a game with the Red Wings Alumni team that ended in a tie. Jay said it was a real thrill competing with players that he admired and watched on TV. He stays in shape by hitting the gym and the ice three times a week, staying in top form so he can perform both on the stage and on the ice.

The goalie mask he wears is custom painted, as are all goalie masks, and it shows his passions. The important things that are painted on his goalie mask are some Las Vegas Hotels that include the Riviera where he starred for many years, the Neil Diamond pose from The Jazz Singer and the words “Vegas Diamond” painted on the chin. He truly is our Vegas Diamond and Las Vegas is so proud of him.

And as true to form Jay meets his fans and friends in the lobby after the show and stays there until all the greetings and pictures are taken. Thank you Jay, my friend for all the joy you bring to everyone’s life with your beautiful show. Good times never seemed so good.

This was the best house party I have ever attended and upon entering Cindy’s beautiful, fabulous home and being greeting by the lady in the table, surrounded by champagne glasses full of bubbly to Mikey the Monkey, I had the time of my life. I enjoyed seeing Tempest Storm at the party and she was looking beautiful as always.

NiteKings Inducted into the Entertainment Consumers Exchange Hall of Fame.

Photos by Nikki Artale
For 50 years the NiteKings have kept the Doo Wop music alive and they are still going strong. On November 17, 2014 the group was inducted into the entertainment Consumer’s Exchange Hall of Fame and they celebrated that evening at Rhythms Kitchen in Las Vegas. It was a huge turnout of friends, family and fans that came out to honor the Nitekings. www.nitekings.com
Tony Cedola, Skip Petronzio, Victor Moea, Eddie B, Angelo Mastreio, Red Michaels, Chris Jacobs and John Falbo are the current NiteKings who entertain and mesmerize the fans that come out to see them perform. Rich Perez is the founder of the NiteKings, and fills in periodically and concentrates on managing the group, along with Skip Petronzio who co-produces the show with Rich Perez.

Rich was born in Pontiac, Michigan and had a large family consisting of six sisters, one brother and a mother and father who loved all of them. His father played the saxophone and those musical notes have remained with him for decades and that was the foundation of his musical career. Their lives were filled with music as they grew up. His life story is beautifully written in detail by Arlene Krieger, as narrated by Rich Perez in “The NiteKings a Legendary Band”. I encourage everyone to read this heartwarming, loving story of the wonderful Rich Perez. Rich is an amazing talented man and people love to be around him. He will be happy to personally autograph his book at his gigs at the Bourban Street Cabaret at The Orleans and at Sam’s Town.

Arlene Krieger has recently written books on Tony Sacca Las Vegas Ambassador of Entertainment and a book on Little Anthony. The books can be purchased on www.amazon.com

The NiteKings have appeared in many major Las Vegas Casino’s and are currently playing at Sam’s Town every Sunday 7:00-11:00 pm and at The Orleans on Wednesdays 4:00-8:00 pm. I went to see them at The Orleans and not only did the Doo Wop sound sweet, their outfits were beautifully tailored and they were the picture of perfection.           Video         http://youtu.be/ytcelP3QRc0

The showroom was filled with people dancing and you could see the nostalgic reminiscing of the audience as the soulful singing of the NiteKings filled the Casino showroom. The music brings back many good memories of the past.

Magical Forest Shines Bright in Opportunity Village

Photos by Nikki Artale
Get in the holiday spirit by visiting the Magical Forest in Opportunity Villageand bring out the inner child in you as you walk through the park surrounded by millions of lights. It is an enchanted wonderland that is not only magical for children, but for adults as well.

There are a lot of animal characters walking around and taking pictures with many of the children. The displays are awesome and beautiful, especially the ginger bread houses, the castle, the polar bears, Santa’s reindeers, the decorated trees and hundreds of displays. It is a magical experience walking through the twinkling lights and hearing the Christmas music playing.

The express passenger train ride is popular for both the children and adults and the train goes through the entire park surrounded by the twinkling lights. There is also the Carousel, Avalanche Slide, and Mini Golf, Photos with Santa and Hot Chocolate and fennel cakes.

One display I loved was from the movie “The Christmas Story” with Ralphie (you’re going to shoot your eye out) that is shown for 24 hours every Christmas day. I have watched that movie faithfully for many, many years and I love it.

All the proceeds go to Opportunity Village, a non-profit agency that serves the people with intellectual disabilities by providing them with training and employment that improves the quality of their lives. The Magical Forest opens for the season November 21, 2014-January 4, 2015 Sunday-Thursday 5:30-9:00 pm Friday –Saturday 5:30-10:00 pm. and is located at Opportunity Village 6300 W. Oakey Blvd, Las Vegas NV.  It is the highlight of the holiday season and I enjoyed it with my family. www.opportunityvillage.org
